Some of Australia's biggest fishing tournaments are about to cast off.

February and March is all about fishing in Port Stephens with a number of tournaments held, attracting all kinds of anglers and boats.Whether you are a game fisherman or woman, a junior angler or a trailerboat fisherman or woman, there is a major tournament happening that you don't want to miss.


20 and 21 February is the Garmin Sylvania Marina Shootout. This is a five star rated event hosted by the Newcastle and Port Stephens Game Fish Club and focusing on marlin and sharks.

This is followed by the huge NSW Game Fishing Association Interclub State Championship held over two weekends (27 and 28 February, 5 and 6 March), with Monday 29 February being the Lyndy Grieves Memorial Ladies Day. This tournament attracts over $12,000 in prizes for marlin, tuna, sharks, kingfish, cobia, mahi mahi.

On Saturday 5th March the NSW Game Fishing Association are hosting a Junior Fishing Clinic for 5 to 13 year olds at the Nelson Bay Weigh Station. This one is open to the first 50 anglers to register, so don't miss out (it is $5 and includes a rod and reel and lunch too!).

Then from the 18 to 20 March there is the Club Marine Trailer Boat Fishing Tournament, which will attract 450 boats, 1,000 competitors and over $80,000 in prizes for 14 species categories and lucky draw prizes. This tournament is open to both adult and junior anglers.
